Oxford Advanced Learner's dictionary

 http://oald8.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/
A great dictionary available online and in book form!
I have a copy with the CD.
I recommend that whatever English learning books you buy, if there is the option, buy the one with the CD.  The difference in price is usually small and being able to access this quality dictionary, with pronunciation and phonetic symbols, when not online, is a great advantage.

Have a look at The Oxford 3000™ word list.
This is taken from the online version:
The keywords of the Oxford 3000™ have been carefully selected by a group of language experts and experienced teachers as the words which should receive priority in vocabulary study because of their importance and usefulness.
Understand meanings—entries are written using only the Oxford 3000 key words
These 3000 words are listed alphabetically WITH their pronunciation!

The two Ronnies 'Fork Handles'

I like You Tube!
I use it for personal use for listening to music but it is also useful for English learning.
There are lots of videos abour learning English, some of which are excellent, but I'm using it to find closed caption videos. These are videos with subtitles/captions and maybe a transcript as well.

This is one of my all-time favourite TV moments and I'm so pleased that it's got both subtitles and the transcript.
It's all about misunderstandings in spoken English.

Podcasts

Podcasts are a useful way to practise English.
Here's just one site.
I'll post more when I have some free time!

The reasons why people wear a poppy

Many more people learning English will now be aware of the custom of wearing poppies due to the furore over England players wearing poppies.

Here is an article in Spanish about the reason why poppies are worn at this time of year.

Here's a lnk to a blog written by two Spaniards who have been living in London since May this year.
